Although it isn't a well publicized fact, Paris is the second largest European city; also known as affectionately as the City of Lights. No visit to Europe would be complete without a short stay in Paris; most people promise to return as so much they wanted to see will have been missed.
It is famous for many famous buildings and locations; including famous sights like the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe to name just two internationally famous landmarks. Traveling through the city of Paris can be very enjoyable; the Metro underground train network will probably be the main method as it runs regularly and reaches every part of the city.
The famous Paris Avenue the Champs Elysees' must also receive a visit; with shops, cafes, and restaurants littered along the wide pavements, it is a must see' for every visitor. This avenue is well worth a visit to see how the wealthy live; most of the five star hotels are located here but more affordable hotels can be found further out.
If you are an art lover you will enjoy the Louvre, a truly amazing museum; it contains almost a third of a million exhibits and is in fact one of the biggest art museums in the world. There are enough art exhibits to keep you occupied for more time than your short stay in Paris would allow; the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo statue just two of many appreciated works of art. What makes Paris special is the number of artists that have been attracted to this great capital; these include Monet and Picasso who very fortunately left some of their work here for all to enjoy.
Of course, Napoleon commissioned the construction of the Arc de Triomphe, another Paris landmark; the names of his generals are engraved on its surface and another of those must have' photo land marks. Although not generally well known, the Arc had an observatory installed after it was constructed to provide views of neighboring areas; including all the avenues of which it is a focal point.
You will not be at a loss for places to visit whilst in the city; these are however, the most popular with regular tours arranged, many of which are either free or at a subsidized cost. A Paris short stay vacation will probably be best suited as just a taster of the city; anything that's missed will have to take a rain check.
